A couple of emerald monitor lizards gave birth to two babies on Friday November 18 and Monday November 21, in a pet store in Beauvais (Oise).

The birth of one of the little ones was also filmed in a video shared on Facebook.

.

The man who devotes a passion for reptiles raised two specimens for four years for their reproduction.

A laborious task for this type of animal.

“The incubation lasts 190 days.

You have to get the couple to agree and be compatible, and you also have to be able to trigger the mating period,” he explained.

Regulated detention

However, their detention is highly regulated.

Monitor lizards must be fitted with an electronic chip and registered with IFAP (Identification of protected wildlife) in order to be traceable.

The sex of newborns can only be known after one year, the breeder must still wait to baptize them.

Their parents have also laid a third egg which has yet to hatch.
