Sharjah Social Development launches a "pillar" to serve the elderly

The Department of Social Services in Sharjah launched the new free service for the elderly residing in the Emirate of Sharjah, through a training course to qualify social care providers from domestic workers to deal with the elderly over the age of 60, to ensure the provision of decent home care for the elderly in the Emirate. It has a “pillar” in cooperation with the Department of Suburbs and Villages Affairs to implement the course in its affiliated councils and in direct proximity with dealers, as registration is available to everyone for registration.



Kholoud Al-Nuaimi, Executive Director of the Community Service Sector, stated that the general objective of the training course is to qualify social care providers from domestic workers or relevant employees from governmental, private or civil institutions whose work tasks require providing care for the elderly, and the training program is implemented in cooperation with a company Specialized in the field of rehabilitation and training, through several different languages, according to nationalities, to ensure that the trainee obtains the necessary qualification and training so that the elderly in the Emirate can enjoy decent care and attention in their homes and achieve their well-being.



Al-Nuaimi added that the program came out of the importance of rehabilitation and training, as they are among the foundations on which to build the competence of those in charge of social care providers in homes and to qualify them in the best way in dealing with the elderly, by training them and sensitizing them to social aspects such as training to deal with the elderly and his family and take care of the elderly and their families. Taking into consideration the Emirati customs and traditions, for citizens, and matters of daily hygiene, changing clothes, cutting the elderly’s nails, moisturizing and massaging the elderly’s skin, and the importance of appropriate daily physical exercises that help maintain physical activity for them.



And their awareness of health aspects, and it includes the nursing aspect such as health care of measuring vital signs such as measuring blood sugar and knowing its normal limits, and measuring pressure. service provider.



In the aspect of physical and kinetic therapy, the trainee undergoes workshops that enable him to know how to avoid bed sores and prevent them by changing positions, kinetic exercises, and knowing the aids in movement such as: stick, walker....etc.



The workshops include training them on the necessary first aid, including knowing emergency numbers and how to seek help, knowing how to deal with a hypoglycemic coma, knowing how to deal with dizziness and coma, and low blood pressure, knowing ways and how to stabilize fractures until the arrival of specialized medical help, and how to guide them about spending leisure time With the elderly, the activities that can be applied in proportion to their situation, and how to make the environment around them safe and secure, in addition to identifying the setbacks that the elderly can go through, methods of communication with the responsible authorities, and other necessary basic rules that must be known It is based on the caretaker of the elderly at home, and the program provides a team specialized in dealing with the elderly, and home care teams in the branches of the cities of the Emirate of Sharjah.
