Investigators from the Heilbronn criminal police have confiscated the largest quantity of the drug methamphetamine, known under the name "crystal meth", found in Germany to date from two drug dealers.

The police were able to seize 200 kilograms of the drug in October and take it out of circulation;

in September, the Hamburg police took possession of 180 kilograms of methamphetamine.

The market value of the drug find from Baden-Württemberg is estimated by experts at around 20 million euros.

The quality is "highly pure," said a spokesman for the police.

The suspects would have exceeded the permitted amount that they could have carried with them by "36,000 times".

Drugs probably from Mexico

The goods probably come from Mexico.

A 34-year-old suspect and a 33-year-old accomplice are in custody.

Both suspects are said to have previous convictions.

The circumstances of the drug smuggling were unusual: the alleged perpetrators had hidden and welded their goods in a 24-ton hydraulic press.

A bad weld led to the discovery of the drugs.

The press was shipped to Antwerp and then taken to Sinsheim in northern Baden-Württemberg.
