• In September, in the presentation of his large Marseille plan, Emmanuel Macron had promised the arrival of 300 national police officers.

  • It is now done, with a back promotion of 100 police officers.

  • But this remains insufficient, according to the town hall, to achieve a police ratio per inhabitant comparable to Lyon.

Lined up at attention in the courtyard of the bishopric police station, 100 police officers were assigned today to Marseille, the last "batch" of the promise made by Emmanuel Macron of 300 additional police officers in September 2021. The new recruits, fresh out of school, have "made a courageous choice", greeted Frédérique Camillerie, the prefect of police.

Some, however, are not lacking in experience.

There are some who were in the army, others already municipal police officers, and others still contractual, like Yann, 25, who was already in Marseille for two years as an assistant police officer.

Originally from a “rather quiet” neighborhood in the north of the city, he was assigned to the northern police station, to the emergency police night service.

These new recruits also allow the creation of two groups dedicated “to specific and priority issues”, continued the prefect.

One unit will be devoted to the fight against cigarette trafficking and the second to violence against people.

“There are still 600 national police officers missing”

However, these reinforcements, "absolutely necessary" and "satisfactory", are "insufficient progress", judged Yannick Ohanessian, elected representative of Marseille, deputy delegate for security.

“We still lack 600 national police officers in our streets to correct the territorial inequality suffered by Marseille in terms of national police personnel”, he estimated to reach the level of a city like Lyon.

Other additional staff will however have to arrive in Marseille in the years to come.

“We voted 10,000 additional police officers over the past five-year term, 8,500 over the one that opens, with a vote in two days in the National Assembly”, recalled Sacha Houlié (LREM), the president of the commission. laws, present this Monday morning in Marseille.
