She miraculously escaped death after her husband buried her alive

A woman who was stabbed and buried alive by her husband narrowly escaped her grave by waving her nose in the dirt to create pockets of space, allowing her to breathe and then escape.

Chae Kyung An, 53, kidnapped his ex-wife, Young Seok An, 42, from her home in Lacey, Washington, United States, according to the Lacey Police Department.

The police said the accident occurred during the absence of the children of the former couple.

Authorities rushed to the property after reports of "muffled screams" and "sounds of struggle".

They found that the garage door had been left open and also found a roll of tape used in the dwelling.

The police statement added that "the woman, residing at the property, had a domestic violence protection order against her ex-husband, Chai An."

Subsequently, an alert about Young as a missing person was posted on social media and a notification was sent to mobile phones in the area.

And the newspaper "Daily Star" quoted local media as saying that some tape was still around some parts of her body, and that she was bruised and dirty.

Young told the homeowner where she had taken refuge that her husband "was trying to kill her".

As soon as the police came, Young told investigators that Chai had taken her to a forest, stabbed her and buried her in a shallow grave while she was still alive.

Young explained how she managed to escape, noting that she moved her nose into the dirt to create pockets of space, allowing her to breathe.

Then Young walked through the woods for about half an hour before knocking on the door of the first house she found.

The police statement said Young was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment for non-fatal injuries.

Chai was arrested after a resident noticed his car as it was driving through the woods.

He was charged with attempted murder and domestic violence, as well as first-degree assault and kidnapping, according to reports.

He is currently being held without bail.
