Culture Minister Parisa Liljestrand on Ruben Östlund: "Fantastic writer"

Which culture should be included in a Swedish cultural canon has not been decided, there will be a group of experts who will develop a basis for which culture should be included.

In SVT's Morgonstudion, presenters Alexander Letic and Pelle Nilsson showed three Swedish works to the Minister of Culture and asked if these could be included in the new canon.

Which works can be included?

The works shown were the books Selma Lagerlöf's "Gösta Berling's saga", Stieg Larsson's "Millennium" trilogy and Ruben Östlund's film "Triangle of Sadness". 

- They are all fantastic authors and I have read two out of three books myself and thought they were very, very good, but if they are to be part of a cultural canon, that is not for me to answer, said Parisa Liljestrand. 

The presenters then pointed out that exactly "Triangle of sadness" is not a book.

The film was awarded the world's most prestigious film prize, the Palme d'Or, at the Cannes Film Festival in 2022. It is the second time director Ruben Östlund has been awarded the prize.

The last time was five years ago.

Then Östlund was awarded the Palme d'Or for the film "The square".
