Tragic end to a flight: at least 18 people who wanted to return to their village after the devastating floods in Pakistan lost their lives in a bus accident.

According to the authorities on Thursday, twelve children were among the victims.

A fire broke out in the bus on Thursday night shortly after it left the city of Karachi in southern Pakistan to bring people back to their homes.

"Apparently the fire broke out in the air conditioning of the bus," said police spokesman Hashim Brohi.

However, the investigations were still ongoing.

In Karachi, people had sought refuge from the massive flooding of the past few weeks.

As a result of the monsoon rains, a third of Pakistan was flooded, eight million people had to leave their homes, two million homes were destroyed or damaged, 1,500 clinics and hospitals were devastated.

Damage is estimated at $28 billion.
