The activities of the ninth session of the Sharjah International Film Festival for Children and Youth 2022, which kicks off tomorrow, will witness the premiere of 22 informative, educational and entertaining films in the UAE and the Gulf region, throughout the days of the festival, which is organized from 10 to 15 October at the Al Jawaher Center for Events and Conferences in Sharjah.

The festival, which is organized by the "Fan" Foundation concerned with promoting and supporting media art for children and young people in the Emirates, and which is based in Sharjah, will display 16 films presented for the first time in the UAE, and six films that are shown for the first time in the Gulf region, within its seven categories, in two locations: Al Jawaher Center and Al Zahia City Center in Sharjah.

The list of films shown for the first time in the UAE includes 16 films, including the feature film “Neighbors” by Swiss director of Kurdish origins Mano Khalil, which employs a sense of humor and irony in the film to tell a childhood story in the era of dictatorship, and the extent to which friendship, love and solidarity are strengthened in times of oppression. and tyranny.

And from Germany, director Damaris Zielke presents the movie “The Most Boring Grandmother in the Entire World,” which revolves around a girl named Greta, who lives with her grandmother, who loves to collect souvenirs and stare at pictures of those who have left. When Greta is bored and tired of the activities that her grandmother practices, she pretends She is at a funeral with her grandmother, forcing them to think about questions they had never thought of before.

Film director and writer Mojtaba Saeed presents the movie “Death”, which revolves around the eight-year-old child Adam, who is quarantined in a refugee shelter with his mother Sophia after the outbreak of a pandemic of an unknown virus in the world, and Adam exits the room, defying his mother’s orders and instructions. And as soon as he steps outside the doorstep, he discovers the catastrophic effects of the panic sweeping the city due to the pandemic.

The festival will screen the film “Kadha” by director Anis Al-Aswad, and tells the story through the eyes of a 12-year-old boy named “Kadha,” which is a word that means “flame” in Arabic and is suitable for the title of the film in Arabic, after his father traveled to Italy years ago on a sailing trip. The treacherous act of many while entering Europe illegally, the boy spends most of his time on the seashore with his companions, where he steals phones and contradicts passersby, and continues in this state until he gets into a car accident.

Through “Shiro,” director Claudio Casal tells the story of Shabnam, who was brutally assaulted with acid as a teenager, and has now become Shiro, an Indian women’s rights campaigner raising her child, by teaching her the importance of beauty and feminine energy outside conventional concepts.
