- The authorities claim that there was fighting, but in fact no other shots are heard through the sound analysis.

There was no crossfire.

They shoot with the intention of killing the journalists, said Omar Ferwati, who led the investigation for London-based Forensic Architecture.

Al Jazeera journalist Shireen Abu Akleh was shot dead during a job in the West Bank on May 11.

Israeli authorities initially denied involvement, but later admitted that the fatal bullet likely came from an Israeli weapon.

But to this day, no one has been held responsible for the shooting death.

According to an upcoming report from Forensic Architecture, the matter is clear:

- For the first time, we can establish that Shireen and her colleagues were clearly identifiable as pressure, and that they were attacked deliberately and repeatedly, says Omar Ferwati.

Denied help

- Our spatial analysis also confirms that a civilian who tried to help her was fired upon repeatedly.

So they deliberately tried to deny her help, says Omar Ferwati.

Forensic architecture is an interdisciplinary collective of architects, sound engineers, artists and lawyers who use modern technology to recreate crime scenes to question the evidence in cases where states have resorted to violence against citizens.

- For the past ten years, we have contributed with spatial analyzes and evidence in legal cases.

An example is the Golden Dawn trial in Greece, where we helped prosecute members of the neo-Nazi movement, says Omar Ferwati.

Wants to bring justice to Abu Akleh

Now Forensic Architecture hopes that their investigation will have legal consequences.

- Our work can be used in trials.

Our goal is to support the legal aftermath and help bring justice to Shireen, says Omar Ferwati.

Israel's embassy in Stockholm dismisses Forensic Architecture's investigation that the shooting would have been deliberate:

“Israel does not deny that this tragic event may have involved Israeli soldiers, but anyone who believes it was intentional is wrong.

It is false and misleading.

But it is possible that Abu Akleh was accidentally hit by shots fired at suspects identified as Palestinian shooters.”
