International human rights activists called for an end to Israeli attacks on journalists in the Gaza Strip and the occupied Palestinian territories, during a symbolic stand in front of the United Nations building in the Swiss city of Geneva.

According to a report prepared by Hafez Mrebih, the participants in the protest raised pictures of the martyrs, colleagues Hamza Al-Dahdouh, Samer Abu Daqqa, and Sherine Abu Aqla, in addition to pictures of our colleague Wael Al-Dahdouh, who was injured and lost his wife and some of his children, and also pictures of the injured colleague Ismail Abu Omar.

One of the participants said that they want to put an end to the horrific killing of journalists in Gaza, noting that 100 journalists were killed, “which is the highest number of journalists ever killed in such a short period in any conflict in modern history.”

He added, "Journalists in Gaza are being killed in large numbers and also injured. Their offices have been destroyed, their equipment confiscated, and they have been imprisoned."

Israel must be held accountable

Calls to stop the killing of journalists reached the United Nations building, where participants in a symposium on protecting journalists during conflicts called for the need to hold Israel accountable for its crimes against journalists.

The symposium participants considered that the state of impunity “contributed to strengthening these violations,” and one of the participants said that accountability is necessary because Israel’s killing of journalists is not something new.

She added, "What we see today is partly due to a climate of impunity, and it is very necessary for the international community to make clear to Israel that those responsible for killing and injuring journalists will be held accountable."

In addition to resorting to international courts, defenders of journalists call for striving in every way to force the Israeli occupation to respect international laws.
