The Tokyo Metropolitan Government has announced that a man in his 60s living in Tokyo has been confirmed to be infected with "monkeypox".

This is the fifth confirmed case of infection in Japan.

Monkeypox infection was confirmed in a man in his 60s living in Tokyo.



According to the city, the man had symptoms such as fever, back pain, and rash, and visited a medical institution on the 20th.



He is currently hospitalized at a medical institution and is said to be in a stable condition.



It is said that the man has no recent history of overseas travel, but he has a history of contact with people who visited Japan from overseas before the onset of symptoms, and the metropolitan government is investigating the route of infection.



Even after the World Health Organization (WHO) declared a public health emergency of international concern in July, monkeypox continued to spread, mainly in Europe and the United States. As of today, 63,117 people have been confirmed infected in 106 countries and regions around the world.



This is the fifth confirmed case of infection in Japan.
