Red vigilance activated in Gard and Hérault by Météo-France.

The meteorological service had placed 25 departments of the Center-East and North-East on orange vigilance on Tuesday for the risk of violent storms, while in the South the Gard and the Hérault remained on alert, threatened by potential stationary storms.

The two departments now join the long list of those that could be swept away by “storms generally quite brief but sometimes violent with sustained gusts of wind (near 100 km / h), hail and very high intensity of precipitation locally giving quite significant accumulations”, specifies Météo France.

Orange vigilance is required, also taking into account the sudden floods that such intensities of rain can cause.

But “there remains a marked uncertainty both in chronology and in location on these storms”, warns Météo-France.

A rapid improvement in the situation is expected overnight from Tuesday to Wednesday.

In the Hérault as in the Gard, the first showers started on Tuesday morning, with a peak of storms anticipated for midday and Tuesday afternoon, specified Météo-France in its 6 a.m. bulletin.

On Tuesday, a stormy episode quickly crossed Ile-de-France and the neighboring regions, without causing significant damage despite strong gusts and hail.

At the top of the Eiffel Tower, gusts of up to 102 km/h have been measured.

Numerous hailstorms were reported.

From Brittany and the Pays de la Loire to Normandy in the morning, then to the west of Hauts-de-France in the afternoon, the clouds will be numerous and will be accompanied by frequent rainy periods, sometimes thunderstorms.

A south-westerly wind at 60 km/h will continue over these north-west regions.

In the South-West the day will be calmer, sunny spells will largely dominate.

Elsewhere, clearings and clouds will alternate, a few isolated but locally stormy showers will be possible.
