Eating the flesh of feet .. The truth of creatures terrifying California beachgoers

Beach-goers in the US state of California were subjected to a frightening experience, when small meat-eating crustaceans, known as "little sharks", attacked their feet, which bled, according to the testimonies of pioneers who lived the experience they described as terrifying.

And the scientific website “Life Science” stated that crustaceans that eat meat and travel in swarms, including a unit of about a thousand creatures, and the British “Daily Mail” website indicated that this creature also includes more than 10 thousand species of marine creatures that live in fresh and salt water. .

"It was painful," said Tara Savage, a beachgoer in San Diego, California.

I jumped out of the water and blood covered my feet and between my toes, I felt as if small piranhas had bitten me,” Sky News Arabia quoted CBS 8 as saying.

She continued, "I washed my feet and felt comfortable after about 15 minutes, however, when I put my hand in the sea water again, another one bit my finger."

This type of crustacean is found in California's beaches all year round, said Ryan Hechinger, professor at the Scripps Institution of Oceanography.

According to marine life experts, these creatures are usually found year-round along the California coast and on beaches in the Pacific Northwest regions of the United States and Canada.

The isopods usually live under sand, but appear in shallow water when the tide recedes.

If a dead fish or other large carcass was washed ashore, these "insects" would quickly pounce on it.

And although they prefer to eat fish and other sea creatures, they can "pounce" on humans, and this is what happened off the coast of California.
