In connection with the murder of the prominent Dutch crime reporter Peter R. de Vries (64), the police arrested a suspect again.

It was a 27-year-old man, the police reported on Wednesday.

He is said to be a member of a criminal gang that committed violent crimes on behalf.

The 27-year-old man is the sixth person arrested in connection with the murder.

The reporter was gunned down on the street in Amsterdam a good year ago.

He succumbed to his injuries nine days later.

The suspected shooter and the driver of the getaway car were arrested shortly after the crime.

They are on trial in Amsterdam and face life imprisonment.

Drug gang at the center of the investigation

The judiciary assumes that a notorious drug gang is behind the murder.

De Vries was a key witness in an extensive murder trial against this gang.

The brother and the defender of this key witness had already been murdered beforehand.

At the beginning of July there had obviously been a breakthrough in the investigation.

Three suspects were arrested in quick succession.

In addition, a witness had emerged who, according to prosecutors, could establish a direct link to the drug gang.
