In Israel, adults with compromised immune systems can now get a booster vaccination.

Health Minister Nitzan Horowitz said the third injection after two vaccinations with the Biontech Pfizer vaccine were given to people who had undergone an organ transplant or who suffered from an illness that caused a drop in immunity.

The question of a booster vaccination for the entire population is being examined, but has not yet been decided.

With the spread of the Delta variant, the number of new infections in Israel has risen again.

Vaccinations started in the country in December.

Pfizer and Biontech also want to ask the authorities in the USA and Europe in the next few weeks to approve these booster vaccinations.

They justify this with an increased risk of infection after six months.

Incidence in Germany continues to rise

In Germany, the 7-day incidence climbed above 6.0 for the first time in two weeks. According to the Robert Koch Institute (RKI) from Sunday morning, the value was 6.2 new infections in seven days per 100,000 inhabitants (previous day: 5.8; previous week: 5.0). The health authorities in Germany reported 745 new corona infections to the RKI within one day. This is evident from the numbers from Sunday morning, which reflect the status of the RKI dashboard at 3:13 a.m. For comparison: a week ago the value was 559 infections.

According to the new information, six deaths were recorded across Germany within 24 hours.

A week ago there were seven dead.

The RKI has counted 3,736,165 detected infections with Sars-CoV-2 since the beginning of the pandemic.

The actual total number is likely to be significantly higher, as many infections are not detected.

The RKI stated the number of those who had recovered at 3,634,400.

The number of people who died with or with a proven Sars-CoV-2 infection rose to 91,231.

The left calls for a halt to further easing

The left spoke out clearly against further corona easing. Relaxation is correct when a large part of the population is fully vaccinated - only then does the risk of serious disease progression decrease, said co-party leader Susanne Hennig-Wellsow on Sunday of the German press agency. "But that time has not yet come." A moratorium is needed, that is, a delay and further relaxation, she demanded.

"This is the only way we can gain the time that is needed so that more people get full vaccination protection before the fourth wave hits." The pandemic is still there. The protection of health is still the top priority, said Hennig-Wellsow. "We should therefore not make the mistake of Boris Johnson in Great Britain and lift important protective measures such as the mask requirement ahead of time." The Left Chairwoman advocated holding on to measures such as distance and masks for "a while" and avoiding major events .

In order to counteract vaccination fatigue, some communities in this country also resort to unusual actions. With brass music, pretzels and a beer without alcohol, the vaccination center in Attendorn in the Sauerland invited to the corona vaccination this Sunday. The morning pint at the vaccination center should motivate those who are undecided to pick up the vaccination protection, the responsible district of Olpe had announced. Around 147 people followed the vaccination offer without prioritization and registration on Sunday morning. That was significantly more than usual for a Sunday morning with an appointment, said the head of the district's vaccination center, Stefan Spieren of the dpa.
