The CSU is calling for nationwide wastewater monitoring in order to monitor cannabis consumption behavior after the planned legalization.

"We need more control so that Germany doesn't become Europe's stoner nation," said the CSU parliamentary group leader in the Bavarian state parliament, Klaus Holetschek, to the editorial network Germany (RND).

In the past, increased drug consumption in European cities has been demonstrated via wastewater.

The wastewater monitoring instrument is also very well developed in Germany and was established during the corona pandemic, the former Bavarian Health Minister continued.

“Wrong and dangerous”

The aim is to find out how consumer behavior changes after legalization.

According to the law passed by the Bundestag, possession and cultivation of the drug will become legal for adults for their own consumption from April 1st with numerous requirements.

However, permission to grow and consume cannabis is “wrong and dangerous,” said Holetschek.

»Early emotional and psychotic illnesses will increase.

The brain matures by the age of 25, and anyone who consumes cannabis risks permanent damage.

The legalization of cannabis was one of the traffic light government's prestige projects and was passed in the Bundestag at the end of February.

The government's plans do not provide for a complete release, but rather a controlled release with various rules.

The law will initially decriminalize the possession of up to 25 grams of cannabis or 50 grams within a month for adults.

A person should be allowed to grow up to three plants at home.

From summer onwards, it will be allowed to grow cannabis together in clubs.

Trafficking in minors should be punished with at least two years in prison.

Smoking weed will be allowed in public in the future - but not within sight of schools and daycare centers.

It should also become easier for companies to grow cannabis for medical purposes in Germany.
