Yandeunghoe, a Buddhist event, has been registered as a UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity



At the 15th online meeting of the UNESCO Intangible Heritage Committee, the intangible cultural heritage of humanity was confirmed by the Yandeung Conference.



As a result, Korea has become a country with 21 cases of intangible cultural heritage, starting with Jongmyo Jerye and Jongmyo Jeryeak in 2001, Pansori, Gangneung Danoje, and Yeondeunghoe.



The Yeondeunghoe is a Buddhist event to celebrate the birth of Buddha on the 8th of the lunar calendar where Sakyamuni was born, and it has the meaning of creating a world without discrimination and affluent by illuminating the world with the light of truth.



The Yandeunghoe, which consists of a lantern festival and a procession, started as a religious event, but now it has become a representative spring festival that anyone can participate in.



The UNESCO Intangible Heritage Committee said, "The inclusion of the General Assembly, which has changed over the years, has contributed to crossing the boundaries of nationality, race, religion, and disability." "I will perform."



The government said, "We will make continuous efforts to promote the excellent traditional culture to the international community and contribute to cultural diversity and human creativity."
