More than 7,000 new cases of coronavirus infection have been recorded in the past 24 hours, a number up, according to figures released Wednesday by Public Health France (SpF).

In detail, 7,017 cases have been confirmed, an acceleration compared to the 5,000 new cases recorded the day before but comparable to the level of Friday (7,319).

The test positivity rate (proportion of the number of people tested positive compared to the total number of people tested) is identical to the previous day, at 4.3%.

In 24 hours, 25 additional patients died in France, bringing the total of deaths to 30,686 since the start of the epidemic.

Million weekly tests reached

Among these deaths, 20,172 were recorded in hospitals, and 10,514 (data from August 31, last figure known) in social and medico-social establishments, including nursing homes.

The number of outbreaks of infection (or “clusters”) under investigation is 384, excluding nursing homes, according to SpF.

The number of Covid-19 patients hospitalized in intensive care continues to increase, with 22 additional people bringing the total to 446. The Directorate General of Health (DGS) indicates for its part that over the last seven days, more than one million of tests (1,004,859) were carried out, ie the objective set by the government.

She underlines that "the progression of the virus continues on the whole of the territory", with "19 metropolitan departments and 2 Overseas concerned by an active circulation of the virus, to which are added Guyana and Martinique, still in state health emergency ”.
