Measures taken on buses - Lionel Urman / SIPA

  • The town hall of Cannes presented its deconfinement plan.
  • In addition to the mandatory masks, the city wants to "create alternative modes of transport to avoid chains of contamination".
  • Not all children can be accommodated in schools.

On the Croisette side, we already knew that the deconfinement should be… masked. A municipal decree requiring since Monday the wearing of face protection in transport and "all public spaces with high potential traffic" and shops in particular. This Wednesday morning, by videoconference, LR Mayor of Cannes David Lisnard said more about his plans for after May 11. Welcome to schools, travel… 20 Minutes takes stock of what is already scheduled.

Open schools, but not for everyone

Schools in the city of festivals will be open from May 12, but under conditions. For small and medium kindergarten sections, "health protocols are impossible to implement" according to the mayor, only students whose parents have priority jobs will be welcomed. From the main section to CM2, "the children of parents who are obliged to return to work face-to-face and telecommuting" who have requested it, and those whose families are in difficult circumstances, particularly economically, will be able to return. On this last point, a municipal commission will rule "on a case by case basis".

"I ask parents who can keep their children at home to do so, it will be a civic act. For those who have no choice, we are implementing all the sanitary measures to be able to accommodate them, ”points out David Lisnard. There will be a maximum of fifteen students per class, hydroalcoholic gel at the entrance of the establishments and each classroom, meals will be taken in the classes and the recess will be “differentiated”, with shifts every fifteen minutes, specifies the city.

New cycle and pedestrian routes

In addition to adaptations in buses, to enforce social distancing measures, the mayor of Cannes has decided to make many arteries, especially in the city center, pedestrian and / or cycle. "The southern lane of the southern causeway of Boulevard de la Croisette will be reserved for bicycles and a cycling zone is also planned on Pierre-de-Coubertin avenue," he announced in particular. "We are trying to create alternative modes of transport to avoid chains of contamination," points out David Lisnard.

Free on-street parking will be extended at least until June 30. And the town hall is also working to restore the shuttles to get to the Lérins Islands "under the same conditions as those set up in the buses. "

What about beaches?

For the moment, access to the beaches is still prohibited and will remain after May 11, according to government directives. “I plead with the State so that we can practice nautical sports activities. It is a matter of common sense. We will have the right to jog, why can't we go windsurfing, ”says David Lisnard. A meeting in this sense should take place Thursday in the prefecture.
