What return to school on May 11? The municipalities which manage the primary schools request a consultation with the Ministry of National Education. It was through the Association of Mayors of France (AMF) that the municipalities contacted Jean-Michel Blanquer. "This is a considerable health issue, the smooth running of which relies heavily on mayors and their teams," said the AMF.

The association "is at the disposal of the ministry", "on the basis of the recommendations that it has already formulated, so that a concerted action can be initiated which makes it possible to respond to the concerns of the mayors". The AMF, which brings together almost all of the mayors, wishes to draw up "a locally adaptable national protocol which defines the recovery schedule, the categories of pupils concerned and the health recommendations applicable to staff and children".

Questions related to "wearing masks or disinfecting premises" must be treated as a priority, she underlines. Other questions relate to transport, catering and extracurricular activities, "assumed by the municipalities". "If the mayors will make every effort to ensure the return to school in the best conditions, they must be able to have the means necessary at the risk of aggravating already strong inequalities between the territories," writes the AMF.

Several points "imperatively require a joint assessment with the communities", she underlines, such as "the definition of reception conditions" for children in classes or "the organization of activities around sport, health, of culture and good citizenship on school time ”.
