The Invisible Man

One of the most anticipated new products of the week was the invisible man horror shot in collaboration between the UK, USA, Canada and Australia. The film was directed by Lee Wonnell, who shot the horror film "Astral 3" and the fantastic thriller "Upgrade", as well as the author of the script for the first "Saws". The main role in the film was played by the two-time owner of the Golden Globe, the star of Mad Men and The Handmaid's Tale, Elizabeth Moss.

The picture is based on the 1897 novel of the same name by the English writer Herbert Wells about a scientist who created an apparatus that can make a person invisible. The plot of the film is set around a scientist named Adrian, Cecilia Cass. The heroine is unhappy with Adrian and wants to get rid of a toxic relationship. One day she manages to escape. Soon, the scientist commits suicide, but Cecilia begins to notice that she is being watched by someone invisible.

Initially, The Invisible Man was planned as part of the Dark Universe of Universal Studios, which involved the creation of a series of films about classic monsters. Among them, in addition to the Invisible Man, Dracula, the Mummy, the Wolfman, Frankenstein and the Creature from the Black Lagoon were supposed to be. However, the film “The Mummy” of 2017 failed at the box office and the studio decided to abandon the creation of the universe.

The Invisible Man went on sale in the US a week earlier and had already collected a large cash register, several times the budget. At the same time, the tape received many positive reviews: its rating on Rotten Tomatoes, according to critics, is 91%.

Fantasy Island

The fantastic thriller “Fantasy Island” is based on the American series of the same name, which aired from 1977 to 1984 on ABC. In the story, the heroes fly to a resort located on a mysterious island. The owner of the resort is ready to fulfill any dreams of his guests. However, fantasies do not come true as expected, and the island hides many dangerous secrets.

The director of the film is Jeff Wadlow, who shot the horror "Truth or Action" and the comedy thriller "Kick-Ass 2". He adapted the script in collaboration with Gillian Jacobs and Christopher Roach.

Despite the intriguing idea, the project receives mostly negative reviews. Foreign critics note a slurred and unfinished plot. According to them, everything terrible is not scary enough, the conclusions drawn by the heroes are not convincing, and the denouement is too long and ordinary. So far, critics have rated the tape on Rotten Tomatoes at 9%.

One of the reasons for the failure could be a low rating for the declared genre - PG-13. The creators of the horror set out to show the hidden desires of the heroes, but were forced to adhere to a rigid framework that did not allow to fully reveal the topic.

Forward (Onward)

The launch of the new Disney and Pixar project “Forward” was accompanied by a small scandal: MP Vitaly Milonov called the animated film, where the LGBT character appears, an ideological diversion and proposed to ban its rental. However, the controversial moment was smoothed out, and the picture received a rental certificate.

Events unfold in a magical world inhabited by mythical creatures. They lead a normal human life, because they have not so much magic left. One day, one of the heroes receives an artifact as a gift that can bring his father back to life.
