The Regional Health Agency of Guadeloupe announced Sunday that three cases had been detected in Saint-Martin and Saint-Barthélémy, the first identified in Overseas. "To date, there are no possible or confirmed cases in Guadeloupe," adds ARS.

Three cases of Covid-19 have been confirmed as positive in Saint-Martin and Saint-Barthélemy, the Northern Islands of Guadeloupe, announced Sunday the Regional Health Agency of Guadeloupe, making them the first cases of proven coronavirus Overseas. He is a resident of Saint-Barthélemy, who is confined to his home, and his parents, placed under surveillance at the Saint-Martin hospital.

On Friday, the parents leaving for Paris from Juliana international airport (located on the Dutch side of Saint Martin) had been handed over to the French authorities because they presented symptoms of the coronavirus. The analyzes, carried out by the Pasteur laboratory in Guadeloupe, confirmed that they were positive.

"Their state of health is not worrying"

The couple came to visit their son, who lives on the neighboring island of Saint-Barthélemy. The latter is currently "confined to his home with daily monitoring. His state of health is not worrying," according to the ARS. His parents are "in solitary confinement at the Saint-Martin hospital and are being followed closely", adds the ARS, which specifies that "their state of health is not worrying". There are, in addition, two other possible cases with a couple of residents in Saint-Martin returned from vacation in Oise. Their samples are being processed.

These three cases of infection are the first three recorded in Overseas. "To date, there are no possible or confirmed cases in Guadeloupe," adds ARS. Despite serious concerns from populations, especially in Martinique and Reunion, where clashes have taken place in recent days in the face of arrivals of planes or boats suspected of transporting infected people, no other case has instant was detected.
