The Senate adopted the bioethics bill by 153 votes to 143, which opens medically assisted procreation (PMA) to single women and couples of women. The text, largely revised, will now go to second reading in the National Assembly.

The upper house, dominated by the majority on the right, did vote for the extension of the PMA, an emblematic measure of the text and a promise by Emmanuel Macron. But he reserved his reimbursement by Social Security only for actions motivated by medical criteria.
