After much back and forth, there is a majority in the US Senate in favor of billions in aid for Ukraine, Israel and Taiwan. There were enough votes in the chamber on Tuesday for a bill worth around 95 billion dollars (around 88 billion euros). However, the approval of the House of Representatives is also required to release the funds. This is considered questionable. The Republicans make up the majority in the second chamber of the US Congress, and US President Joe Biden's Democrats have a very thin majority in the Senate.

Biden has been trying for months to get billions in new aid for Kiev through Congress. Former President Donald Trump's Republicans are blocking this, but have recently shown some willingness to move, at least in the Senate.
