How to fight against police violence? This Tuesday in Pau, Emmanuel Macron asked the government "clear proposals to improve ethics" among the police, while the police face new charges of violence.

"Behaviors that are not acceptable have been either seen or pointed out", he justified, while also deploring "the violence and political nihilism" that he says expressed by certain demonstrators. Without "generalizing" these behaviors, the Head of State does not want "this affects the credibility and dignity" of "professionals of the internal security forces" and "for this there must be no indulgence".

Proposals to improve control

"I hope that the Ministry of the Interior can make clear proposals to me as soon as possible to improve the code of ethics and the elements of control", he explained, also wishing "that the justice system may continue to work on these cases ". "In no case do I want this subject to come to hide the deep violence that exists in our society and of which the internal security forces are the first victims," warned Emmanuel Macron.

Faced with new accusations of police violence, the government has for some days turned its rhetoric by calling on the police to "set an example" with "a fair and proportionate use of force". Two days after having already reminded the police of their professionalism and ethics, Christophe Castaner hit the nail on Monday by dedicating a good part of his wishes to the National Police to the duty of "exemplarity" and to "l 'ethics', during a visit to the National School of Police Officers (Ensop) of Cannes-Ecluse (Seine-et-Marne).

A father killed during a check

The tripod images, like others captured during the recent demonstrations against the pension reform, have for some given rise to the opening of judicial investigations. And provoked a new wave of accusations against police violence, a term refuted for over a year by the executive and the start of the protest against "yellow vests".

At the start of the year, they are added to the death of a 42-year-old father working as a delivery man on January 3, victim of asphyxia with a broken larynx, near the Eiffel Tower after having was flattened on the ground, helmet on the head, by several police officers during a stormy roadside check. His family was received on Tuesday by Christophe Castaner.
