The debate about the lack of diversity in artistic higher education is not new. It is hoped that the new application process for university programs in acting in Stockholm, Gothenburg and Malmö will change this.

In the past, applicants for the programs have practiced their monologue and then put it in place at the schools. But soon they will instead be able to film the monologue and send it in digitally, it reports Kulturnytt in P1.

Josette Bushell-Mingo, head of the Department of Acting at Stockholm University of Art, hopes that this will make more people feel encouraged to apply.

- We want to see more different types of people, who may not come to a university and may not think that the university is something for them, says Josette Bushell-Mingo to Kulturnytt.
