A new case study has highlighted the risks that feathered bedspreads can cause for some people.

The study revealed that a man developed acute pneumonia due to a rare reaction to its edge.

The 43-year-old Scottish man was referred to a respiratory specialist after suffering tiredness and fatigue for three months, even when doing the simplest activities.

After questioning the patient, his answers revealed that his quilt and pillow were stuffed with feathers.

Blood tests revealed antibodies to bird feathers, while chest X-rays showed signs of hypersensitivity pneumonia, a condition in which the lungs become inflamed as a result of an excessive immune response in the body for a specific reason.

After the diagnosis, the man was given a set of steroids and had to change the edge to another artificial, and it took 12 months to cure.
