Further increase in capacity of temporary protective facilities for child abuse deaths 11:26 on August 29, Chiba

Chiba Prefecture has reviewed the original plan because of the increasing number of “temporary protection” in which the child of a fourth grader died after being abused by parents in Noda City, Chiba Prefecture. We decided to increase the capacity of the facility further.

In May, Chiba Prefecture announced the plan to increase the number of temporary shelters to accept 28 abused children by two years, as one of the measures to prevent recurrence. It was.

However, the number of children protected in six facilities in the prefecture increased to 195 on the 1st of this month, 1.7 times the current capacity of 115.

For this reason, it will be used for the rebuilding by leaving the building of the “Central Children's Counseling Center” that was scheduled to be demolished in the summer of next year, or by expanding the Ichikawa Children's Counseling Center to increase the total for 56 people. The capacity is expected to be 171 people.

On the other hand, since there will be a shortage after that, we will further strengthen our cooperation with infant institutions, child-care facilities, and foster parents.

Governor Morita said at the conference on the 28th that “the elimination of overcrowding is an urgent matter and we want to urgently take measures”.
