The British street artist Banksy is against his will at the center of an insurance affair in Belgium: The judiciary in Brussels on Thursday confiscated all 58 works of art of a Banksy exhibition.

The attorney's attorney confirmed to AFP on Friday a report from the Belgian newspaper L'Echo. The "Banksy Unauthorized" exhibition, which has already been shown in several European cities, including Berlin, has also been stationed in Brussels since the beginning of November.

The exhibition, which was not approved by the graffiti artist, was shown in an area of the non-profit organization Strokar. The images, screen prints and photos with an estimated value of 15 million euros, had been put together by Banksy's former agent Steve Lazarides, with whom the artist in 2009 overruled.

Court: "Without the consent of the rightful owner"

German-based art agency On Entertainment asked Strokar to host the exhibition in Brussels. It stated that it has the necessary rights and permissions. When Strokar asked On Entertainment to present the insurance contracts during the on-going exhibition, the German company refused to do so according to the exhibitor's lawyer, Stanislas Eskenazi.

Given such uncertainties and the risk of theft or damage, Strokar turned to the Commercial Court in Brussels. This ordered to ensure all the exhibits. According to the newspaper's report, the court held that the works of art were "without the consent of the rightful owners" and "not regularly insured".
