Mountains of bouquets, notes, candles, photos, children's drawings, pile up in front of Buckingham Palace in London and Windsor Castle where thousands of moved Britons, sometimes in tears, came to pay homage to their deceased queen .

As soon as the death of Elizabeth II was announced, the inhabitants of the United Kingdom left their homes, sometimes braving the rain, to meditate in memory of the very popular monarch who died Thursday after 70 years of reign.
