Buckingham Palace said that King Charles III would continue to run the affairs of the (French) state.

Buckingham Palace announced on Monday that British King Charles III has cancer and has begun receiving treatment.

The Royal Palace said in a statement that the king (75 years old) was diagnosed with a type of cancer following the recent surgery he underwent in the hospital due to an enlarged prostate.

The statement did not reveal any details about the cancer that Charles III suffered, but a royal source said that it was not prostate cancer.

Buckingham Palace said that the king would continue to run state affairs, but noted that doctors had advised him to postpone public duties.

Charles III spent three nights in hospital last month after undergoing prostate surgery.

The announcement of the king's illness sparked widespread reactions in Britain, and Prime Minister Rishi Sunak and opposition Labor Party leader Keir Starmer expressed their wishes for his speedy recovery.

It is noteworthy that Charles III was crowned King of Britain in May 2023 after the death of Queen Elizabeth II in September 2022.
