In the dispute over a cap an 18-year-old has attacked a teacher near Paris. According to French media, the attack took place on Tuesday at the Lycée Jean-Baptiste Corot in the northern French town of Beauvais in the Oise.

Eyewitnesses reported to the newspaper "Courier Picard" that the teacher had asked the student to remove his cap, which he had denied. Then the situation escalated and the student hit the teacher directly in the face. Colleagues of the pedagogue hurried to separate the opponents.

"We work in an institution where violence since the beginning of the year is a problem, be it verbal or physical," said one of the educators. "But having your face smashed for a hat - that's never been there."

"The situation is alarming"

The 62-year-old teacher suffered a broken jaw and was treated in the hospital. The Academy in Amiens confirmed the incident about 80 kilometers northwest of Paris, but did not comment on the occasion of the attack during a break. The student of an architecture graduating class was arrested after the attack and came into police custody.

In protest of the violence, the teachers of the school put the work down. In a joint statement, they wrote: "We teachers must warn the parents, whose role is more important than that of the institution, to understand in what a climate of uncertainty and under what difficult conditions we pursue our profession." The situation is alarming.

The responsible school pupil, Jacky Crépin, is kept up to date by the attending physicians on the condition of the teacher. He promised, "We will ensure that this unacceptable aggression has consequences for the student in question."

The Lycée is considered "difficult" - even in the past it should have come to several battles among warring gangs. In January 2018, seven young people were arrested.
