Three weeks ago, the following news caused a stir: Thomas and Thea Gottschalk have split up after more than 40 years of marriage. Much has been reported since then, now has the moderator himself commented.

No target audience cares more about him than the radio listeners, said Gottschalk on Sunday night in his radio show on Bayern 1 (from minute 4:40). "The readers of any women's papers that are really going crazy - and what they're all reading right now, half true, the other half true, and I just wanted to say, please do not worry about me. I am fine."

He also did not know "what is right in life and what to do wrong," Gottschalk said. "We try, we go our way and get older." Then he introduced the following words to the song "The Waves At Night" by Phosphorescent: "Even at our age we like to hear some romantic music in between."

Thomas and Thea Gottschalk had met in 1972 in Munich. Since 1976, the two were married, they have two sons.

The moderator is one of the most famous people in German-speaking countries. He became popular in the first place through the ZDF Saturday evening show "Wetten, dass ..?" (1987 to 1992 and 1994 to 2011). Since his departure from the program, the television Gottschalk has not let go. Among other things, he sat with Dieter Bohlen on RTL in the "Supertalent" jury and shot shows with Günther Jauch. Most recently, he appeared as guest juror at Heidi Klum's "Germany's Next Top Model".
