With work stoppages at the airports in Hamburg, Hanover and Bremen, a warning strike wave at a total of eight German airports began on the night of Tuesday. This was confirmed by the union Ver.di.

Called for a full-time labor dispute is the security staff. Also affected are the airport hubs in Frankfurt am Main and Munich, as well as Dresden, Erfurt and Leipzig / Halle airports.

The aim of the unions is to increase the pressure on employers with the most comprehensive labor dispute in the current collective bargaining round. Ver.di calls for a uniform payment of 20 euros per hour for the inspectors and the airport employees. That would be a plus in the high double digit percentage range. Currently, the pay varies according to region and activity.

The employers consider this unrealistic, they offer according to own representation a plus of up to 6.4 percent. For Ver.di this is not enough - according to the union, this would only be a plus of two percent for the majority of the employees. Four previous collective bargaining rounds had left no results. Both sides want to continue negotiations on 23 January.

About 220,000 passengers affected

On Tuesday, passengers have to expect massive downtime and delays. The ADV airport association anticipates that around 220,000 passengers will be affected by delays and delays.

  • As early as Monday, nearly two-thirds of the original 178 departures planned for Tuesday with more than 20,000 passengers had been canceled in Hamburg with 109 launches. Also 91 landings were canceled by the airlines - as of Monday evening.
  • All in all, one third of all take-offs and landings should be canceled during the Tuesday in Hanover .
  • At Bremen Airport, 27 out of 58 flights scheduled for Tuesday had been canceled on Monday evening.
  • At the largest German airport in Frankfurt am Main on Tuesday 570 flights should be canceled. The security people want to resign from 2 to 20 o'clock the work there.

Where is information for affected passengers?

The first contact person for air travelers is always the airline, for package holidays it is the tour operator. The airports offer detailed information about the current departure and arrival times on their websites.
