The death of a woman at a New Year's Eve fireworks in Schleswig-Holstein goes back to new findings on a gunshot wound and not on illegal fireworks back.

"After the autopsy we assume with high probability that the woman has been killed by a gunshot wound," said the Kiel senior prosecutor Birgit Hess. It was the metal splinters from which the woman was hit on the head, parts of a projectile of unknown caliber.

The 39-year-old wanted to watch the fireworks on New Year's Eve in Schönberg near Kiel with her husband outside the door. After a few minutes, the mother of three children collapsed. In an emergency operation doctors found the splinters. So far, there had also been the theory that the injuries could have been caused by illegal firecrackers.

Procuratorate and homicide continue to investigate on suspicion of homicide. The backgrounds are still unclear, said Hess. Officials are in Schoenberg in use to question possible witnesses and to secure traces.
