The planned jubilee festival "Woodstock 50" northwest of New York will not take place yet. After announcing performances by musicians like Jay-Z, Santana and Miley Cyrus, the organizers have now surprisingly backed down.

Dentsu Aegis Network, one of the main investors, said it was not possible to hold an event that lived up to the Woodstock brand name and guaranteed the safety of artists and audiences.

The US magazine "Billboard" reported that in addition to financing problems with the performance fees, there was growing concern that the planned venue Watkins Glen in the north of the state of New York would target the calculated 100,000 visitors per day.

In March, the organizers had presented the line-up and also announced appearances by the Killers, Imagine Dragons and the Lumineers. Advance ticket sales for the three-day anniversary event in mid-August have been postponed and have not started yet.

The original Woodstock Festival in August 1969 is considered the highlight of the hippie movement, with an estimated 400,000 visitors. Among other things, Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin and The Who had given legendary concerts near the town of Bethel about 150 kilometers northwest of New York. The venue was then due to protests of residents in Woodstock finally about 70 kilometers away.
