The carnivalists have not been impressed by Sturmtief "Bennet". Despite heavy gusts and rain showers, the carnival trains in the strongholds Cologne, Mainz and Dusseldorf made their way through the city - in a slightly stripped-down form. So the carnivalists in all three cities renounced horses.

In several cities carnival trains were canceled, so in Bottrop and Hattingen in the Ruhr area or in Fulda and Seligenstadt in Hesse. Trains began later in many other cities. Augsburg canceled because of strong gusts an open-air event on the town hall square.

Rose Monday: Carnival defy bad weather

Where the parades took place, the political statements remained clear. The Dusseldorf cars of Jacques Tilly once again proved to be particularly political and provocative. The common thread with him this time was the subject of right-wing populism - for example in Italy, Poland and not least in Germany. Thus, a car kept secret until the end showed the Thuringian AfD leader Björn Höcke with Nazi propaganda minister Joseph Goebbels.

Höcke was depicted as a baby in diapers, Goebbels held him up like a father his son. The motive was hidden until the start on the train track under a tarpaulin.

The "Mainz Carnival Association" estimated that about 450,000 people pursued the move on the roadside, a little less than usual. The Dusseldorf went out of about 600,000 visitors. In Cologne it was said that the inflow was higher than last year.
