At least one crew member died in a fire on an oil tanker off Hong Kong. Two more are missing, according to the Hong Kong radio RTHK.

The disaster happened off the island of Lamma. On photos you could see how the 144 meter long ship burned in imbalance. A dark cloud of smoke rose in the sky. Previously, a loud explosion had been reported.

The sailors had apparently jumped into the water to get to safety. Forces have been able to rescue more than 20 people from the water, Hong Kong radio reports. At least four would have to be taken to hospital.

According to the MarineTraffic.com website, the vessel is registered in Vietnam and came from the port of the southern Chinese industrial city of Dongguan.
