Defender and table buyer: Everything started with him. On May 1, 1969, Hans-Christian Ströbele founded the Socialist Bar Association to represent left activists in court (photo from 1980). With three other lawyers, he moved into the Meierottostraße in Berlin-Wilmersdorf an office and bought one for. Ströbele and his colleague Klaus Esche bought a 5.50-meter-long table made of burl wood at a flea market, but soon proved to be too big and chunky for their office. He made detours in Kommune 1 and later in the "taz" editorial office - until he was stolen in a bizarre manner in 1990.
