The woman from Lower Saxony was murdered about 75 kilometers from Bangkok, the police said. As a suspected murderer, a 24-year-old Thai was arrested, who according to a police spokesman said the act.

The woman came on Sunday for a day trip to the island, which is located in the Gulf of Thailand. Ko Si Chang can be reached quite quickly from the capital Bangkok and the tourist metropolis Pattaya, the crossing takes about half an hour.

Addressed by the alleged murderer

After arriving by ferry, the holidaymaker rented a scooter at noon to explore the island. There, according to Thai media reports, she spoke to the man who allegedly killed her later.

Several hours later, another vacationer happened to find the body of the woman hidden under several stones. According to the local police chief, the suspect is an islander who earned his money by collecting rubbish. According to the police, the woman has been in Thailand since March 23. Most recently, she lived in a hotel in the city of Si Racha on the mainland - directly opposite the island.
