Two women and one man tried to rob a senior citizen in her apartment in Berlin. But the 103-year-old knew how to fight back.

The elderly woman had previously opened the door to unknown persons, and two women immediately rushed into the apartment, the police said. The 103-year-old should write something in her kitchen on a note, but declined. When one of the women came too close to her, the elderly woman grabbed her walking stick - and drove the duo out of the apartment without any loot. A man who had been waiting in the stairwell also escaped from the house, as the message says. The elderly woman was therefore unhurt.

Scammers try to divert their victims - often older people - with the so-called "card trick". For example, you pretend to leave a message for your neighbor or pass around a purported signature list (the police have published background information on "trick theft in homes").

"Ultimately, it's always about focusing people's attention on something else so that the accomplice can flit into the apartment to collect valuables," said a police spokeswoman.
