In the Russian part of the Altai Mountains an avalanche has allegedly buried seven tourists from Novosibirsk. This was reported by local authorities. Rescue workers are searching for the missing travelers with two helicopters in the region.

The avalanche left on Monday. Two members of the walking group had been able to save the news agency Tass, but only two days later reached the settlement Kosch-Agach and informed the authorities by radio.

The two women were physically intact, but visibly taken away from the experience, it said. They would soon take off with a civil protection helicopter to help find the missing person.

The Altai Mountains are partly 4500 meters high and located in the border area between Kazakhstan, Russia, Mongolia and China. The southern Chuja ridge is a mountain range in the Russian Republic of Altai and has a length of about 120 kilometers.
