A free meal for 50,000 residents of his hometown: Mukesh Ambani, India's richest man, kicked off the wedding celebrations for his son with a remarkable gesture.

The entrepreneur, together with his wife Nita, his son Anant and his fiancé Radhika Merchant, entertained the residents of the Reliance district of the city of Jamnagar in western India on Wednesday evening.

Three days of celebrations begin on Friday in a huge Hindu temple complex built by Ambani especially for this purpose.

Numerous celebrities from business, politics and show business are expected.

The actual wedding is scheduled to take place later this year.

Ambani is the head of the Reliance Industries group and, according to Forbes magazine, the richest person in Asia with a fortune equivalent to around 105 billion euros.

Six years ago he gave his daughter what was reportedly the most expensive wedding party in India to date, costing the equivalent of 92 million euros.

US pop diva Beyoncé, among others, performed at the party at the time.

This time, at the son's wedding, performances by R&B star Rihanna, magician David Blaine and Bollywood singer Diljit Dosanjh are on the program.

The guest list includes Microsoft founder Bill Gates, Meta boss Mark Zuckerberg, the King of Bhutan and the daughter of former US President Donald Trump, Ivanka.
