More than 50 years after its publication, the title

I am ill

is still an essential part of French song.

Guest on the show

Pascal Praud et vous

, its author, Serge Lama, told an anecdote about the origin of the title card.

"The song became a hit the day I put the mic on the floor. And why did I put that mic on the floor? I'll never know. Suddenly, I felt a passage at the end of the song (...) From there, it was madness", he explained on Europe 1. For the artist with a career of almost 60 years, "you also have to know how to give yourself. I know what I'm talking about. You have to give yourself on stage, and in all these songs, I really give myself."
