Many rivers are flooding and there is a risk of flooding.

There is already water on the streets in many cities and towns.

Bridges were closed in many places.

Rail traffic on the route between Milan and Venice had to be rerouted on Wednesday.

Many trains were delayed.

The mayor of the city of Vicenza in the hinterland of Venice, Giacomo Possamai, described the situation on the Rai television station as “critical”.

Rail traffic was completely interrupted for a distance of around 50 kilometers between the cities of Vicenza and Padua.

The high-speed trains between Milan and Venice therefore had to take detours.

In Liguria, the municipality of Pieve Ligure was practically divided in half by a landslide.

The authorities ordered several families to leave their homes.

There were also evacuations in other communities.

In higher areas of the Italian Alps, there was heavy snowfall with lots of fresh snow, so roads had to be closed.
