King Harald V: Sick on vacation

Norway's King Harald V has been admitted to a hospital in Malaysia due to an infection.

The Norwegian royal family said he fell ill while on holiday in the Asian country.

The 87-year-old monarch is “being well cared for by both Malaysian and Norwegian medical staff.”

King Harald V had repeatedly struggled with health problems in the past.

In 2020 he had a new heart valve inserted - for the second time.

He had already undergone heart valve surgery in 2005.

At that time it was replaced by an artificial heart valve made of biological material.

These have a lifespan of 10 to 15 years.

It is therefore not unusual for such a flap to be replaced after a certain period of time, the palace said at the time.
