The 49th César ceremony, broadcast unencrypted on Friday evening on Canal+, attracted 1.86 million viewers (or 11.8% market share), more than last year, according to figures from Médiamétrie published on Saturday.

In 2023, it had attracted 1.7 million viewers.

These figures, however, remain far behind the 3.9 million viewers gathered in 2012. Friday evening, the Césars gave an unprecedented place to victims of sexual violence, the actress Judith Godrèche dreaming of a "revolution" in the midst of a wave of liberation of speech in French cinema of which she has become a spearhead.

Coronation of “Anatomy of a Fall”

The actress, who received a standing ovation, called on the “curious family” of French cinema to “say out loud” the reality of sexist and sexual violence in this environment.

"I'm talking but I can't hear you. Where are you?" she said again.

The evening was also marked by the coronation of “Anatomy of a Fall” by Justine Triet.

The feature film, Palme d'Or at Cannes in 2023, dominated the evening with six trophies, including best film, and is gaining new momentum before the Oscars (March 10 in Los Angeles), for which it has five nominations.

This is also the second time that a female director has won the trophy for best director, after Tonie Marshall in 2000 for “Vénus Beauté (institut)”.
