Suddenly everything happened very quickly: Because she couldn't make it to the maternity clinic in time, a heavily pregnant woman in Dortmund gave birth to her child on the street. The baby's father and a taxi driver supported the paramedics who were called to the scene during the sudden birth on Tuesday, the fire department said. Despite the excitement, mother and child were said to be doing well.

Accordingly, the 29-year-old had called a taxi to take her to the clinic in the morning because contractions had begun. Then everything happened quickly, said the fire department. The contractions were getting stronger and stronger, so the taxi driver decided to call an ambulance before the trip. The crew arrived just in time to deliver the woman behind the taxi.

According to the fire department, it only took eight minutes from the arrival of the emergency services to the cutting of the umbilical cord. A pediatric emergency doctor examined mother and child on site. Both were recovering in hospital.
