Four days ago, the rap crew BHZ from Berlin-Schöneberg published a terse message in white and black on Instagram: "Due to very short-term illness-related reasons," the upcoming 2024 tour had to be "cancelled without replacement."

After a few tracks on Soundcloud, BHZ released their first album distributed by Sony Music in 2018. Tracks like “Powerade” or “Atzenmodus” achieved eight to nine-digit views on Spotify; Videos like “Bottle of Air” were also viewed millions of times on YouTube. In 2022, the group consisting of five rappers and three producers was named “best national band” at the awards of the specialist portal “Hiphop.de”.

But on Sunday BHZ had to deliver the saddest news: one of their rappers, Pablo Grant, who performs under the name Dead Dawg, has died. BHZ shared a message from Grant's family on Instagram.

Accordingly, Pablo Grant died unexpectedly on February 6th at the age of 26 as a result of a thrombosis. Family and friends ask that you refrain from contacting us until further notice during this difficult time. Grant's family thanks the fans "who have accompanied and supported Pablo's artistic path over the years."

This artistic path included not only his contributions to BHZ, but also two solo albums as Dead Dawg, "Dunklschwarz" from 2019 and "Liebe und Pain", which was released in May 2023.

Under his own name, Pablo Grant was also known to a wider public as an actor. He completed training at the Berlin acting school Transform and was already seen in a supporting role in the 2016 film “Bibi and Tina: Girls Against Boys”.

In the first two German seasons of the ZDF neo-series “Druck”, which is popular with young people, Grant played a student. In television films such as “Herren” (2019) or “Never Too Late” (2022) he was cast alongside prominent colleagues such as Tyron Ricketts and Heino Ferch.

Pablo Grant's most public acting role, however, was the character of Günther Márquez in the Magdeburg "Polizeiruf 110" episodes. The chief detective supports Chief Inspector Doreen Brasch, played by Claudia Michelsen. Grant was featured in “Police Call” for the first time in 2020.

According to MDR, the last episode with Grant as Günther Márquez was filmed last fall. A broadcast is planned for this year.
