To learn the secrets of special effects created in cinema, all you have to do is go to the Enghien-les-Bains Arts Center to discover the exhibition “The Magicians of Cinema”. For you, Europe 1 went there for an exclusive visit.

, to be discovered at the Center des Arts d'Enghien-les-Bains, in the Val d'Oise. For the occasion, Europe 1 went there for an exclusive visit to this event on the making of fantastic cinema.

An art of illusion

It's not Batman who wants. Even American actor Val Kilmer admitted that the Batman costume, a sort of head-to-toe shell, was too tight during the filming of the film Batman Forever in 1995. Now, the imposing costume is on display at the Arts Center and its value is inestimable. “It’s a Batman costume with his cape. We know that it’s made with latex foam. These are very fragile materials. To preserve them, it requires a lot of maintenance and repair work,” explains Dominique. Roland, director of the Arts Center.

Alongside the masks of unsympathetic creatures from Lord of the Rings or Men in Black, numerous drawings, including those used by the world's first filmmaker, Georges Méliès, 120 years ago. "We go from Méliès to The Matrix. And, before being a filmmaker, Méliès was an illusionist. So, cinema was an art of illusion", underlines the director at the microphone of Europe 1. An art of the illusion, but above all hours of work on the sets, costumes and makeup. For, sometimes, a few seconds on screen.
